Homœopathy is a complete system of medicine developed by German physician and chemist, Dr Samuel Hahnemann (1755-1843), based on the principle of “let likes cure likes”. This law or principle is based on a long held belief as far back as Hippocrates, the Father of Medicine, and other ancient healers such as Paracelsus, that substances that produce symptoms in a healthy individual can be used to treat similar symptoms in a sick person. Thus, homœopathic treatment is believed to stimulate the body’s ability to fight infection and susceptibility to disease. (Source Australian Homoeopathic Association)
Homoeopathy is based on the operation of a vital force or life energy that exists within all living creatures. When balanced, this vital force is the source of health - illness is a disruption to its operation.
Symptoms of illness are the body’s attempt to heal itself, and homoeopathic remedies work by inducing the vital force to return the body to health. The remedies have been used effectively since the 1800’s - in fact, medical doctors in Germany, India and the UK prescribe homoeopathic remedies regularly. Babies and children respond well to homoeopathy, and the margin of safety is very wide with these remedies - they do not interact with pharmaceutical drugs/medications.
