  • Are you moving your bowels everyday? completely emptying? straining? perhaps too hard or too sticky?
  • It may be time to look at some options to improve your elimination, as poor bowel function can leave you feeling tired, bloated, windy, and can affect the way your body handles toxins and excess hormones.
  • So let's get some tips for moving our bowels daily, completely emptying and doing so comfortably!
    • 1.
      Drink at least 1 litre of water/herbal tea/veggie juice per day.
    • 2.
      Avoid wheat and use other fibres such as flax meal, oats, barley, rye, fruit and veggies, legumes.
    • 3.
      Careful with your meat intake - for some, meat more than 3 or 4 times /week slows things down too much.
    • 4.
      • Eat natural, unsweetened probiotic yoghurt or take a probiotic supplement.
    • 5.
      Eat pears, apples, figs, prunes either as a snack or over wheat free cereal, in a smoothie, or with yoghurt and nuts/seeds.
    • 6.
      Use non-acidic Vit C powder (500mg - 1,000mg) per hour until stools are soft and regular (magnesium also has a laxative effect).
    • 7.
      The occasional use of colonic therapy is well-tolerated by most people and can be a very effective tool for cleansing the bowel.
    • 8.
      Herbal Medicines act as natural laxatives - patients often comment on better bowel function even though I haven't used any laxative herbs in their prescription!
    • 9.
      Let go (excuse the pun) of any emotional stress. Often we hold onto emotions/issues/relationships/ jobs etc that no longer serve us. Seek counselling for unresolved or long-standing issues that you no longer want in your life.
    • 10.
      Sometimes Osteopathic, Chiropractic or Bowen Therapy is helpful if there are lower back, sacral or coccyx issues that need correcting.
